Nakia Sweetman
Associate Veterinarian
Dr. Sweetman was born in Phoenix, AZ, but as a military brat, she has lived in three countries and seven different states across the U.S. She now calls Riverview, FL home.
Dr. Sweetman earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of South Florida in Tampa in 2018. She went on to obtain her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from St. George’s University, completing her final year of clinical training at Texas A&M University in 2022.
She has been working in the veterinary field since 2016, beginning her career while still an undergraduate student. Dr. Sweetman has a particular passion for working with cats and dogs and enjoys both the medical and surgical aspects of veterinary care.
At home, Dr. Sweetman is the proud owner of two dogs and a rabbit. Her rabbit, Saint, is an 8-year-old shelter rescue who now has three legs. Elsie, her oldest dog, is 7 years old and was rescued from the streets of Grenada during her time in veterinary school. Kali, her 4-year-old "big baby," is also a rescue and hails from Tampa.
In her free time, Dr. Sweetman loves to travel and explore new cities, cultures, and cuisines. She also enjoys spending time with her dogs, finding new activities that they can enjoy together. Her other hobbies include reading, going to the gym, and running.
A fun fact about Dr. Sweetman is that she has visited over 40 major cities in more than 10 different countries, fueling her passion for travel and exploration.
